Sixteen Oaks, Iowa Wedding | Jacob + Kaitie

When Jacob + Kaitie met during their undergrad at Simpson their lives were heading completely different directions. They were, as Jacob put it, “Looking to catch flights, not feelings.” Both planning their next adventure, Kaitie was in the process of preparing to study abroad in New Zealand and Jacob was preparing to move for graduate school to North Carolina. In the moments they spent together leading up to Kaitie’s trip, they fell for each other quick. 19 times zones stood between them but while she was away Jacob sent Kaitie letters, texted her, and even arranged for flowers to be delivered to her host family’s house after her first week of student teaching in Auckland. After Kaitie came back to the US they spent the summer together whenever they could and decided to move to North Carolina.

Jacob joined the Navy and since they wanted to stay together they decided to elope in March 2019. Jacob + Kaitie then quickly started planning their 2020 wedding and tried to keep the elopement a secret. But, you know, 2020…Jacob + Kaitie lived in DC, traveling was restricted for military last summer, and so they had to make the decision to postpone last years celebration to this year. Two and a half years into marriage wasn’t exactly what they had planned, but their adventures FINALLY including a road trip back to Iowa to celebrate their marriage with family + friends!
